The Arunachala

A mighty column of divine fire with grace,

Raced above and beneath the earth's surface.

Unable to find its foot and zenith, though tried,

Neither Vishnu nor Brahma won the battle of pride.

And the moment Vishnu surrendered with humility,

Creator Brahma claimed false victory out of vanity.

Hence, Almighty declared Brahma shall not be adored,

And blessed Vishnu with fame that shall never corrode.

Lord Ardhanareeshwara is He, giving us Salvation;

Arunachala is He, the ultimate form of compassion.

This poem on Arunachala, the sacred Thiruvannamalai, is written using each letter in the word 'Arunachala' as the first letter, in order, of the successive lines.
